we all just want to be happy

We all just want to be happy
But we think and dwell and ruminate.
On the past. On the future.
We look for meaning and purpose and certainty
When none of those exist

We all just want to be happy
But happiness is fleeting
We want to live a good life
But what does that mean?
It's miserable to let religious fanatics dictate it for you
It's miserable not to have it dictated

We don't want to feel pain
But when we feel nothing we wish desperately to feel something.
Anything.

We want to live
But life is fleeting
We should enjoy it now but we're too busy thinking.
Dwelling.
Ruminating.
On how now doesn't last forever
